Paersonal safety at ATM machines; part 2

Greetings,

In a previous post we wrote about personal safety when using an ATM machine.

Knowing your surroundings play a major role in keeping yourself safe.

Let’s continue with part 2 of Personal safety at an ATM machine.

• Choose an ATM that looks and ‘feels’ safer, even if it is a couple of miles
  out of the way.
• Try and limit your use to daylight hours. Take someone with you after hours,
  if you can.
  
  
• When you drive up to an ATM location, scan the area for any suspicious persons.
  If you see anyone suspicious standing nearby or sitting in a car, drive away.
• When you approach an ATM on foot be prepared and have your access card ready.
• Memorize your personal PIN number to prevent loss and speed the transaction.
  After inserting your card and your PIN number keep an eye out behind you.
• Never accept an offer to help or request for help from a suspicious male ahead of
  you at the machine. If anyone suspicious or seemingly dangerous approaches
  terminate your transaction and leave immediately, even if it means running away
  and leaving your ATM card in the machine.
• First, tell the suspicious male in a loud, firm voice to “back-off’ and leave you alone.
  This is designed to startle the person and give you time to flee, if appropriate.
  When you receive cash from the machine put it away immediately, extract your
  card, and walk away.

• If you use your car at a drive-thru ATM machine the same rules apply.
• Keep the car in gear, with your foot firmly on the brake, while using the
  ATM machine.
• Keep a close eye on your rear and side view mirrors during the transaction.
• Robbers almost always approach from the rear on the driver’s side. If you see
  anyone approaching, drive off even if it means leaving your A TM card behind.

If an armed robber confronts you, just give up your money without argument.
The cash is not worth serious injury or death.
Get to a safe place and call the police immediately!

Personal Safety at ATM Machines; part 1

In this world of convenience, one of the most used is an ATM machine.
They simply have been incorporated into our lives. They are great to grab
some quick cash while on the run, but still, depending on the location and
time of the day, especially evening, still pose a bit of risk.

For personal safety and security sake, let’s do a little planning ahead so we
use them safely, with no injuries.

As always and as we have spoke about in other posts, be aware of your
surroundings. Just because a ATM machine is open 24/7 doesn’t mean it
is always safe to use it.

* Did you know most ATM robberies occur at night between 8:00pm &
midnight?

* ATM robbers are usually males under 25 years of age.

* ATM robbers usually position themselves nearby waiting for a victim to
approach and withdraw cash.

* Most ATM robbery victims are women and were alone when robbed.

Most victims claim that they never saw the robber coming. ATM robbers
use a gun or claim to have a concealed weapon when confronting their
victim and make demands for their cash.

Your personal safety and security is at stake when using an ATM machine,
here are a couple of tips to make the transaction a little safer.

* Use only ATM Machines in well-lighted, high traffic areas.

* Don’t use ATM machines that are in remote areas or hidden in such away
like behind buildings, behind pillars, walls or away from public view. Beware
of obvious hiding places like shrubbery or overgrown trees.
Robbers like to have the element of surprise and no witnesses.

* If the lights around the ATM machine is not working, stay away, find another
machine.

* as stated earlier, avoid ATM machines next to obvious hiding places.

* Have your card ready and leave quickly, don’t count your cash in public.

* Beware of offers for help from strangers during an ATM transaction.

* Don’t fight with or attempt to follow the robber.

* Drive or walk to a safe place and immediately call the police!

Above all, it pays to know your surroundings and a little planning ahead can
make your night out more enjoyable.

Wall Streets woes help with web page?

Greetings,

Ok, good things are happening and in between doing my Locksmith business, (www.sherwoodlocksmithing.com) thing are progressing on the web page.

Hosting company unpgrade from www.namecheap.com , done.

I went into my accounts page, located my domain name, changed server name that namecheap issused me.

I went to the control panel you get with namecheap as as hosting company and added my new domain name to my already existing name www.hotdenergy.com

Oh yes, I also registered my corp name, www.Lexzco.com that points to my Locksmith company page. I did that so when people receive a confirmation email from me, it looks a lot more professional. All emails from my two new sites now come from Lexzco inc.

Also, for my auto responder and shopping cart, I am using

They answered my questions about my auto responder and they are another company I recommend.

So things are progressing very well.

I have a couple of tweakes to do with the sales letter. Browsers IE, and Mozilla are screwing with my quotation marks around some of my sentances, don't know why.

Anyways, things are closing in on getting done.

I feel this site will be able to help people stay safe, and get their families, homes and business safe from crime.

Hey ya'll,

As a fulltime locksmith, we have had many changes to our industry over the past few years. As an example, just look at your car key, I am sure it contains some type of electrical device known as a transponder located in the head of the key. Don't lose it! Big bucks to get a couple made from scratch! Trust me on this one. Anyways, with changes comes regulations, as much as I hate it, sometimes it is for the better. Soon there will be bill a Locksmith License law in place in the great state of Tennessee. Not only will it protect us the Locksmith, but it is designed to protect you the citizen. How to Protect your Valuables from Theft

Hello, as I find myself with a little more free time these days, I am going to try and use this blog to bring security tips to everyone. I hope you findthe following tips useful.

HOW TO PROTECT YOUR VALUABLES FROM THEFT

One of the most effective tools you can use to retrieve property stolen from you home is a simple electric engraving pen. With this pen you can inscribe your name or a number on the most valuable items in and around your home. Before you do this, check with local police to see which they prefer you use - your name, driver's license number, social security number or whatever.

Engraving your name or number on your valuables helps deter robbery in two ways: First, you discourage the thief since marked property is much more difficult to sell Second, if a thief does steal your property, it is much easier to catch and prosecute him when he is discovered with goods in his possession that are easily identifiable as stolen.

Billions of dollars worth of property stolen each year is never returned to the owners. Why? Because without some identifying mark or number, the police are unable to verify stolen property, or trace the owner. More than half the property recovered by the police is eventually auctioned off or destroyed because the goods have no identifying characteristics.
In some cities, local law enforcement agencies will lend you and your neighbors an engraving pen free. In these communities, you may borrow an engraving tool for several days! days. If this service is not available to you, you can purchase an inexpensive electric pen from your local hardware store for as little as $10 or $15. This small investment could be worth a great deal more to you at a later date.

Items already marked with a serial number - such as cars, TV's, cameras, typewriters, radios, stereos, tape decks, appliances, etc. - may not have to be engraved with your name or personal number. Check with local police first. If they recommend you inscribe your identifying mark on serialized items, inscribe this information just above the manufacturer's serial number.

On unserialized property, inscribe your name or number on the upper right comer of the rear or backside of each item. Should you decide to sell or discard the item at a later date, you should invalidate your number by using the engraving pen or any sharp tool to draw a single line through your name or number from upper left to the lower right hand corner. Do not deface your name or number in any way. It is also advisable, when selling "marked" property, to write out a simple receipt and specify on it that you were the previous owner and indicate the name or number used by you. This could prevent legal hassles for the new owner at a later time.

To protect smaller valuable items such as jewelry, silverware, etc., it is wise to take a photo of each item. A simple, instant-type camera photo is sufficient.

After you have marked and/or photographed all your valuables, make a detailed list of these items and keep it in a safe place. When new items are acquired, add them to your list As other valuables are sold or discarded, cross them off the list.

If you use credit cards, they should be recorded on your list. Either copy your account number and expiration date from each card, or you can have photo copies made for your records.
