Sleeping Secrets; How to wake up feeling refreshed

Most people have probably heard the oft said statement "we spend one third of our lives sleeping". However, we frequently read claims from health experts that Brits are not getting enough sleep, which is leading to an increase in stress and illness in our lives.

So what's so important about sleep anyway? Well - one way to understand how important sleep is, is to look at what happens when we don't get enough. Most people will be familiar with the effects of short term sleep depriviation, perhaps after an all night session on the town; grumpiness, irritability, forgetfulness and inability of concentrate. If the sleep deprivation continues, delusions and hallucinations can begin.

There are several key factors that affect the quality of sleep, including light levels, noise, how tired you are, and also your natural sleeping tendencies; some people are very deep sleepers so are less sensitive to external disturbances, whereas light sleepers are cursed with a low sensitivity threshold, and thus are more likely to be woken by light and noise.

A comfortable bed also plays a very important role in the quality of sleep. At one time, beds were little more than a pile of straw or other soft plant materials, but by building beds off the ground, people soon realised that they could avoid drafts, dirt and various house pests. In some countries however, sleeping on the floor is still the norm - for example Japan, where the vast majority sleep on a futon cushion that is directly placed on the floor.

If you are sharing a bed with a partner, you'll almost certainly need at least a double bed (rather than a small double) to be comfortable; anything smaller than a double is likely to lead to a cramped night. It's also vital to buy a firm mattress; spend some time shopping around and testing several different types of mattress before you buy.

Sleep experts also suggest several other things to help get a better night's sleep; firstly ensure that you set a regular bedtime and avoid long naps during the day. Remove possible distractions from your sleeping space, such as TVs, computers, books and magazines. Fit decent blinds or curtains to your bedroom windows, or wear an eye mask to block out light; avoid drinking any caffeinated drinks after lunch, take regular exercise and use a good supportive pillow.

If you follow these secrets to slumber, you're soon be enjoying deeper sleep, and waking up feeling refreshed and recharged.

The Bond that Binds

Little girl and her father were crossing a bridge. The father was kind of scared so he asked his little daughter, "Sweetheart, please hold my hand so that you don't fall into the river."

The little girl said, "No, Dad. You hold my hand." "What's the difference?" Asked the puzzled father. "There's a big difference," replied the little girl. "If I hold your hand and something happens to me, Chances are that I may let your hand go. But if you hold my hand, I know for sure that no matter what happens, you will never let my hand go."

In any relationship, the essence of trust is not in its bind, but in its bond. So hold the hand of the person who loves you rather than expecting them to hold yours...

This message is too short......but carries a lot of Feelings

Discover why You need sleep!

Dear Friend,

Problem sleepiness may be associated with difficulty concentrating, memory lapses, loss of energy, fatigue, lethargy, and emotional instability.

Problem sleepiness can be deadly.

Approximately 100,000 automobile crashes each year result from drivers who were “asleep at the wheel.” In a survey of drivers in New York State, approximately 25 percent reported they had fallen asleep at the wheel at some time. Crashes in which the driver falls asleep are especially common among young male drivers.

One large study found that in over 50 percent of fall-asleep crashes, the driver was 25 years old or younger.

In addition to the high risk of automobile crashes, problem sleepiness can cause difficulties with learning, memory, thinking, and feelings, which may lead to poor school and work performance and difficulty with relationships.

Furthermore, problem sleepiness leads to errors and accidents in the workplace.

Discover how you can sleep better without the aids of any sleeping pills. Wake up feeling refeshed and rejuvenated and ready to tackle the world!

Golden Phone

A man in Topeka Kansas decided to write a book about Churches around the country. He started by flying to San Francisco and started working east from there.

Going to a very large church, he began taking photographs and making notes. He spotted a golden telephone on the vestibule wall and was intrigued with a sign, which read 'Calls: $10,000 a minute.'

Seeking out the pastor he asked about the phone and the sign. The pastor answered that this golden phone is, in fact, a direct line to heaven and if he pays the price he can talk directly to God.

The man thanked the pastor and continued on his way. As he continued to visit churches in Seattle , Dallas , St. Louis , Chicago , Milwaukee , and around the United States , he found more phones, with the same sign, and the same answer from each pastor.

Finally, he arrived in Massachusetts .. Upon entering a church in Boston , MA .. ........Behold - he saw the usual golden telephone.

But THIS time, the sign read "Calls: .35 cents."

Fascinated, he asked to talk to the pastor, "Reverend, I have been in cities all across the country and in each church I have found this golden telephone and have been told it is a direct line to Heaven and that I could talk to God, but in the other churches the cost was $10,000 a minute. Your sign reads only .35 cents a call. Why? Why?"

The pastor, smiling benignly, replied :

"Son, you're in Boston , Massachusetts now, home of the Boston Red Sox, the Patriots, Celtics, Bruins and Boston College !

"You're in God's Country, it's a local call.

Enjoy this lil end of the week Humor :)

Getting Your Vehicle Ready For Winter

Hey Ya'll,

According to the calender, winter hasn't arrived yet, (yeah right, ask everyone in New England, Midwest, to name just two places.) Anyways, this time of the year dont forget to take car of your car. Here are some tips.

Mechanical failure -- an inconvenience any it occurs -- can be deadly in the winter. Preventive maintenance is a must. Besides, a well maintained vehicle is more enjoyable to drive, will last longer, and could command a higher resale price.

Some of the following tips can be performed by any do-it-yourselfer; others require the skilled hands of an auto technician.

First things first. Read your owner's manual and follow the manufacturer's recommended service schedule.

Engine Performance - Get engine driveability problems (hard starts, rough idling, stalling, diminished power, etc.) corrected at a good repair shop. Cold weather makes existing problems worse. Replace dirty filters-air, fuel, PCV, etc.

Fuel - Put a bottle of fuel de-icer in your tank once a month to help keep moisture from freezing in the fuel line. Note that a gas tank which is kept filled helps keep moisture from forming.

Oil - Change your oil and oil filter as specified in your manual -- more often (every 3,000 miles or so) if your driving is mostly stop-and-go or consists of frequent short trips.

Cooling System - The cooling system should be completely flushed and refilled as recommended. The level, condition, and concentration of the coolant should be checked periodically. (A 50/50 mix of anti-freeze and water is usually recommended.) DIYers, never remove the radiator cap until the engine has thoroughly cooled! The tightness and condition of drive belts, clamps, and hoses should be checked by a pro.

Windshield Wipers - Replace old blades. If your climate is harsh, purchase rubber-clad (winter) blades to fight ice build-up. Stock up on windshield washer solvent-you'll be surprised how much you use. Carry an ice-scraper.

Heater/Defroster - The heater and defroster must be in good working condition for passenger comfort and driver visibility.

Battery - The only accurate way to detect a weak battery is with professional equipment. Routine care: Scrape away corrosion from posts and cable connections; clean all surfaces; re-tighten all connections. If battery caps are removable, check fluid level monthly.Removal of cables can cause damage or loss of data/codes on some newer vehicles. Check your manual.Avoid contact with corrosive deposits and battery acid. Wear eye protection and rubber gloves.

Lights - Inspect all lights and bulbs; replace burned out bulbs; periodically clean road grime from all lenses. To prevent scratching, never use a dry rag.

Exhaust System - Your vehicle should be placed on a lift and the exhaust system examined for leaks. The trunk and floor boards should be inspected for small holes. Exhaust fumes can be deadly.Cold weather will only make existing problems worse. A breakdown -- never pleasant -- can be deadly in winter.

Tires - Worn tires will be of little use in winter weather. Examine tires for remaining tread life, uneven wearing, and cupping; check the sidewalls for cuts and nicks. Check tire pressures once a month. Let the tires "cool down" before checking the pressure. Rotate as recommended. Don't forget your spare, and be sure the jack is in good condition.

Emergencies - Carry gloves, boots, blankets, flares, a small shovel, sand or kitty litter, tire chains, a flash light, and a cell phone. Put a few "high-energy" snacks in your glove box.

Enjoy the upcoming Winter and be safe while driving.

10 Tips for better Sleep

Hello,

If you are looking to get a better night's sleep, and wake up feeling truly rested,
here are 10 simple tips that you can apply starting now.

1 Make sure you are in good physical condition.

2 Go to your Dr for a general check-up.

3 Have your eyes examined.

4 Visit your dentist, ensure that your teeth are in good condition.

5 Make sure your surroundings in your bedroom are restful.

6 The walls and ceiling of your bedroom should NOT be brightly colored.
Pastel shades, especially of blue & green are best.

7 Sleep in a well-ventilated room.

8 Your sleeping space should be at least 36 inches wide. If you have a sleeping
partner, your bed should be at least 72 inches wide.

9 Ensure your bed is comfortable. Make sure that you have a comfortable

10 Keep in mind that overindulgence in alcohol, tobacco or coffee can cause sleeplessness.

How To Burglar Proof Your Doors

Greetings,

Here is your December 2007 edition of Sherwood Locksmithing's Security eZine.
With the Holiday's in full swing now,I hope you find the following article useful.

HOW TO BURGLAR-PROOF YOUR DOORS

The majority of devices mentioned in this report cost very little. All of them will help reduce burglary and make your house or apartment more secure.

Begin with a home "security" check. Start with the front door and work clockwise around the entire inside of yourhome, finishing with the back yard, fence and shrubs, gatesand garage.
Shrubbery should never block the view of your front door. This allows an intruder the opportunity of privacy to gain entrance.

A wide-angle viewer in the door lets you know your visitor in advance. This item is recommended over a chain lock. ============================================================
LOCKS, BOLTS AND HINGES

A DEAD-LATCH is an inexpensive lock set which keeps the burglar from simply slipping your Door open with a plastic credit card. This method of entry is common in many areas, but very easy to prevent.

AUXILIARY DEADLOCK: 1" deadbolt, single cylinder with hardened cylinder guard, and thumb turn. For extra security, a single cylinder deadbolt lock, with one-inch throw and case hardened insert, is recommended for all exterior doors. If you have easily breakable glass within 40 inches of a deadbolt lock, it should be augmented with a stronger type of glass or plastic to provide adequate security.

Most police departments do not recommend double cylinder deadbolt locks for residential use. You may be adding additional security at the expense of personal safety with a double cylinder deadbolt. For example, you could lock yourself in and not be able to escape in case of fire or other emergency.

The RIM LOCK is a 1" deadbolt lock which is installed on the inside surface of the door. It is less expensive than other types of locks, but equally effective for security.

The "JIMMY -PROOF" RIM LOCK is another lock which is installed on the inside surface of the door. But this lock has vertical dead bolts, which is an approved device.

CANE BOLTS: 1/2" in diameter by 12" high installed at the top and bottom of the inactive door offers minimum security. Many homes with pairs of doors, use half-barrel slide bolts on the inactive door. These are weak and totally inadequate.

FLUSH DOLTS: installed at the top and bottom of the inactive door or pair of doors, flush bolts Offer additional security, since the intruder cannot get at these devices to tamper with them if the doors are locked. ============================================================
HINGE PROTECTION
Some exterior doors are improperly installed so that the hinges are installed from outside. To protect such a door from being lifted from its hinges by pulling the hinge pin, follow these simple steps:

1. Remove two screws, opposite each other, from both leaves of the hinge plate.
2. Insert screw or concrete nail into jamb leaf, protruding 1/2".
3. Drill out the opposing screw hole in the door. Do this in the top and bottom hinge of the door. When closed, the hinge pins may be removed, but the door will remain firmly in place.

Sincerely,
Thomas "Trapper"Sherwood

ACLU Christmas Card Fun

Yes, Christmas cards.

This is coming early so that you can get ready to include an important address to your list.

Wanna have some fun this CHRISTMAS? Send the ACLU a CHRISTMAS CARD this year.As they are working so very hard to get rid of the CHRISTMAS part of this holiday, we should all send them a nice CHRISTIAN card to brighten up their dark, sad, little world.

Make sure it says "Merry Christmas" on it.Here's the address, just don't be rude or crude. (It's not the Christian Way , you know.)

ACLU
125 Broad Street18th Floor
New York, NY 10004

Two tons of Christmas cards would freeze their operations because they wouldn't know if any were regular mail containing contributions.

So spend 41 cents and tell the ACLU to leave Christmas alone. Also tell them that there is no such thing as a "Holiday Tree". . . It's always been called a CHRISTMAS TREE!

And pass this on to your email lists. We really want to communicate with the ACLU! They really DESERVE us!!

For those of you who aren't aware of them, the ACLU, (the American Civil Liberties Union ) is the one suing the U.S. Government to take God, Christmas or anything Christian away from us. They represent the atheists and others in this war.

Help put Christ back in Christmas!
